Emails in Trash Are Now Automatically Deleted After 30 Days

Starting today, emails you move to Trash in Tramovio Mail are automatically and permanently deleted after 30 days.

This update reflects a simple principle: if you have already decided you no longer want an email, we should not keep storing it indefinitely. A clear retention window helps keep your account easier to manage while supporting a more privacy-conscious approach to data handling.

For most users, this change will feel natural. Trash remains a safety net if you delete something by mistake, but it is no longer a long-term storage folder.

What changes today

When you move an email to Trash, a 30-day retention period begins immediately. If that email stays in Trash for the full 30 days, it will be permanently deleted automatically.

The countdown is based on the moment the email is moved to Trash, not on the date the email was originally received. That means older emails will not suddenly disappear just because they are old. Only the time spent in Trash matters.

If you restore an email from Trash back to your inbox or another folder, the deletion timer stops completely. Once restored, that message is treated as a normal email again.

For emails that were already sitting in Trash before this update went live, the 30-day timer starts from today. Nothing is being removed unexpectedly in the first few days, and users have a full window to review anything they may want to restore.

Why we are making this change

Trash should be temporary by design.

In many email services, deleted messages can sit in Trash for long periods without users thinking about them. Over time, that creates unnecessary clutter and means data is being retained even after the user has effectively signalled that they do not want it anymore.

At Tramovio, we want storage rules to be simple, predictable, and aligned with privacy-first product decisions. A 30-day retention period gives users enough time to recover something they deleted by accident, while also making sure Trash does not quietly become permanent storage.

This is also consistent with the principle of data minimisation: keeping data only for as long as there is a clear reason to keep it.

How it works in practice

The retention flow is straightforward:

• 1. Move an email to Trash - the 30-day countdown begins.
• 2. Restore it from Trash - the countdown stops and the email remains in your account normally.
• 3. Leave it in Trash for 30 days - it is permanently deleted automatically.

This means users still have a comfortable window to change their mind, without needing to manually clean up deleted mail on a regular basis.

Want to delete something sooner?

You do not need to wait for the 30-day window to end. If you want to remove something immediately, you can permanently delete it yourself in a few ways:

• - Open the email inside Trash and click Delete permanently
• - Hover over an email in the Trash list and click the delete icon without opening it
• - Select multiple emails in Trash and use the Delete permanently bulk action

This gives you both options: automatic cleanup if you want a simple default, or immediate control if you are ready to remove something right away.

Why 30 days?

Thirty days is long enough to recover from a mistake, but short enough to avoid keeping unwanted data around indefinitely.

It is also a retention window users generally understand. If you accidentally delete an email, you still have time to restore it. If you meant to delete it, you do not have to think about it again.

Our goal here is not to make email feel more complicated. It is the opposite. We want core mailbox behaviour to feel clear and consistent, without hidden surprises.

What you need to do

Nothing.

This update is already live for all Tramovio users. The new retention policy applies automatically, and there are no settings you need to configure.

If you currently use Trash as a temporary holding area before deciding what to keep, that workflow still works as expected. You simply now have a defined 30-day window before permanent deletion happens automatically.
